A WIDOW’S PURSUIT- BEWARE OF SCAMS

When I pulled up my book on the Amazon website last month, I found out that 3rd party sellers were selling my $14.99 book for hundreds of dollars! I called Amazon for assistance and was told they could not do much about it. There have been about 20 sellers, selling 3 versions of my book (2012, 2015 & 2017) from $12.13 up to $298.69!!!!

First of all, no one should be purchasing the 2012 or 2015 version of my book. The newest edition is the 2017 that should only be bought through Amazon here. I am very annoyed that these 3rd party sellers are jacking up the price and I’m not even sure the purchaser will even receive my book!

I’ve emailed each of the sellers and asked them to remove my book from their list. Most of them obliged and the rest I’ve had to report to scamsellers. There are still about 4 of them who haven’t been removed, but I am still working on it.

Please be aware and do not purchase through any 3rd party seller. Sorry for the inconvenience! Only order “A Widow’s Pursuit” through Amazon for $14.99!

You may want to stay at home or you may want to volunteer somewhere. This article gives some good ideas of other ways to get through the day. You may want to honor your loved one and make it a Valentine’s tradition!

As a widow in shock, I initially clung to my faith and was filled with God’s peace. When the shock wore off, reality set in, and I was overwhelmed with unfamiliar feelings. I filled the void and numbed my pain with harmful behaviors. By neglecting my children, a consequence followed, jolting me to wake-up to my responsibilities.

I finally surrendered to God and asked for His forgiveness and help. As my faith grew and God led me through grief, my heart healed, I let go of the past and comfort came back into my life. Once I accepted my loss, I awakened to a new life of being a single mom and contemplated new dreams and goals. Struggles still persisted, but I was diligent to pray for guidance to follow God’s will for my family. With God’s grace, hope came back as I experienced more purpose and joy than I ever thought possible.

This is my memoir of being an irrational, 34 yr. old widow, with young children, and how I learned to pursue my faith to overcome grief. Consequently, I discovered an amazing life after my loss. By sharing my story, I hope to help other widows and those struggling through grief.

Grief is an essential human experience. We’ll all experience grief throughout our lives, some of us more than others.
Just as grief affects all of us, it also pervades all aspects of our lives. When we are grieving, our thoughts are consumed by our loss. Food doesn’t taste as good. We’re less motivated to do things we used to find fun. It takes everything just to keep going through the motions of daily life.
And it’s tough to sleep. When we experience grief, it’s common to experience newfound insomnia, or to feel exhausted even if you are getting sufficient sleep.

MORE TO LIFE THAN GRIEF

A_Widow's_Pursuit_Cover_for_KindleSometimes it’s hard for me to remember just how painful life was when I first became a widow. In my book, “A Widow’s Pursuit: Finding Out There’s More to Life than Grief”, I spent a substantial amount of time grieving. I had to! There’s a time in life for everything.

Fortunately, I made sure that God led me through. I made it a habit to pray for every decision I had to make. When I felt his peace, I took that as a sign I was on the right path. When I didn’t feel his peace, I took that as a sign it was not his will and changed my path.

As my grief subsided, and my new life unfolded, God promised me joy and the blessings are still coming, 23 years later!!!

My 2 daughters, who were 6 and 7 at the time their Daddy passed, have grown into the 2 most beautiful women a mother and father could only imagine!

IMG_0550Jessica (the oldest) became a nurse and married Brandon, who have 2 children of their own, Caleb and Isabelle, with another on the way!!! (For anyone that knew Jessica or has read my book of all the challenges of raising her as a single parent, only God can take credit for the transformation in her life!)

 

IMG_0121Nicole (the youngest) obtained a communication degree and married Teigan, who have a daughter, Mila. Even though they live cross country, I know that God continues to watch over her and her family. That gives me comfort!

 

 

In 2009, I found love again and married Joseph. At one time, I didn’t think this would be possible, to love again. I have been blessed beyond belief.046

And now Joseph’s daughter, Emily (my step-daughter), will be getting married this year to Randy. God is good and answers prayers!Emily and Randy

There IS a time for GRIEF, however, there IS a time for CELEBRATION and JOY as well!!!

GRIEF – A SILENT KILLER

th[4]Everyone experiences grief at one time or another. The grief process is normal, but for some people, it turns into suicide.

What is GRIEF?  (Medicine.Net) The normal process of reacting to a loss. The loss may be physical (Death), social (Divorce) or occupational (Job). Emotional reactions include anger, guilt, anxiety, sadness & despair (depression).

However, when grief takes over it can turn into a clinical depression. Some people don’t have coping skills or support they need and don’t want to talk about it. There are treatment and resources that we all should be informed about.

Let me give you some facts: (WebMD) Clinical depression affects about 6.7% of US population over 18 years old. Depressed mood most of the day. Symptoms present for 2 weeks. Recurring thoughts of death/suicide. There is high risk of suicide with depression. Over 90% of people that die by suicide have clinical depression or another mental disorder.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention reports for every suicide, there are 25 attempts!

 

There are resources!!

  1. Grief Support Groups – Griefshare (Christian based program)
  2. Various support groups for specific illnesses (Cancer, Parkinson’s, MS, ALS, etc.)
  3. Caregiver support groups
  4. American Cancer Society has Programs & Services (Helps people with cancer & loved ones to understand cancer, mange their lives through treatment, recovery and find emotional support)
  5. Professional counselors, Psychologists and Psychiatrists

So we need to talk about grief more! When we know someone is grieving over a loss or other main event such as divorce or illness, we need to get the resources to the people before it’s too late! Let’s be more aware!!
